Family

"We the First Presidency and the Council of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, solemnly proclaim that marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God and that the family is central to the Creator’s plan for the eternal destiny of His children."

"We warn that individuals who violate covenants of chastity, who abuse spouse or offspring, or who fail to fulfill family responsibilities will one day stand accountable before God. Further, we warn that the disintegration of the family will bring upon individuals, communities, and nations the calamities foretold by ancient and modern prophets."

President Spencer W. Kimball said the following about becoming pure in heart (This should be considered by families everywhere):
1. We must eliminate the individual tendency to selfishness, that snares the soul, shrinks the heart and darkens the mind.
2. We must cooperate completely and work in harmony one with another. There must be unanimity in our decisions and unity in our actions.
3. We must lay on the altar and sacrifice whatever is required by the Lord.
(President Spencer W. Kimball, CR, April 1978, p. 123 )

"No success in life can compensate for failure in the home." (David O McKay, Quoted from J. E. McCulloch, Home: The Savior of Civilization (1924), 42; in Conference Report, Apr. 1935, 116).

“Maintain an eternal perspective. Let there be a temple marriage in your future. There is no scene so sweet, no time so sacred as that very special day of your marriage. Then and there you glimpse celestial joy. Be alert; do not permit temptation to rob you of this blessing.” (
President Thomas S. Monson, “Be Thou an Example,” Liahona and Ensign, May 2005, 113.)

"Our most important and powerful assignments are in the family. They are important because the family has the opportunity at the start of a child’s life to put feet firmly on the path home."
(Henry B. Eyring, "Help Them on Their Way Home," Ensign Apr. 2010).

"The family has an advantage in the first eight years of a child’s life. In those protected years, because of the Atonement of Jesus Christ, Satan’s use of the mists of darkness to hide the path to return home is blocked. In those precious years the Lord helps families by calling Primary workers to help strengthen children spiritually."
(Henry B. Eyring, "Help Them on Their Way Home," Ensign Apr. 2010).

"Individual progression is fostered in the family, which is ‘central to the Creator’s plan for the eternal destiny of His children.’” (Russel M. Nelson, "Salvation and Exaltation," Ensign Apr. 2008).

"...If families fail, many of our political, economic, and social systems will also fail. And if families fail, their glorious eternal potential cannot be realized."
(Russel M. Nelson, "Salvation and Exaltation," Ensign Apr. 2008).

"Any discussion of family responsibilities to prepare for exaltation would be incomplete if we included only mother, father, and children. What about grandparents and other ancestors? The Lord has revealed that we cannot become perfect without them; neither can they without us be made perfect.  Sealing ordinances are essential to exaltation. A wife needs to be sealed to her husband; children need to be sealed to their parents; and we all need to be connected with our ancestors."
(Russel M. Nelson, "Salvation and Exaltation," Ensign Apr. 2008).

"Family time is sacred time and should be protected and respected. We urge our members to show devotion to their families." (Boyd K. Packer, "General Conference Is for You, Ensign May 2012).
